Piotr Szumieł (b. 1977, Warsaw) is a distinguished violist, professor, and juror. Early in his career, he won numerous prizes at international competitions, including 1st Prize at the Jan Rakowski Viola Competition (1998) and 3rd Prize at the International Brahms Competition in Vienna (2004). From 2002 to 2008, he was principal violist and soloist in Dresden. Between 2005 and 2024, he taught at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music in Dresden and, since 2019, has been a professor at the University of Music in Rostock. Szumieł has performed in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall. He is a member of the internationally renowned Apollon Musagète Quartett, winners of the 1st Prize at the ARD Music Competition in 2008. He has collaborated with outstanding conductors and orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. He studied in Warsaw and Vienna, has given masterclasses, and served on international juries. In 2014, he received the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.
