Sounds of Surrender for Europe – Omar Massa / Guido Sant’Anna / Jerzy Chwastyk

06.06.25, 19:00,
ZSM Concert Hall in Sosnowiec

The meeting and dialogue of different cultures is the theme of this extraordinary event. The canons of European violin music – the music of Paganini, Ysaÿe and Bach, interpreted by Guido Sant’Anne, the Brazilian rising star of the violin and, on the other hand, the bandoneon virtuoso Omar Massa, bringing the culture of the native Tango Nuevo from Buenos Aires closer to the Polish audience in collaboration with the outstanding Polish guitarist, Jerzy Chwastyk. As a point of reference and a linking element between all these cultures – the music of Chopin and the melancholy of the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, referring to the European musical tradition (Bach and Chopin).

more information

The aim of the concert is to show the cultural richness of Europe with a Polish accent and works referring to European heritage and created under its great influence. The juxtaposition of the canon of European music with the work of Omar Massa presents an interesting interplay of colours and styles. Omar Massa is a composer who creates bridges to classical music with his own compositions, without losing the inner melancholy of a true tango nuevo. Massa catapults the music of Buenos Aires into the 21st century. Inspired by the music of Stravinsky or Bartok, soundscapes are sometimes combined here with explosive and temperamental gestures and at the same time create a melancholic aura native to Buenos Aires.

On the occasion of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the event aims to demonstrate the importance of Poland’s cultural heritage against the backdrop of Europe by drawing on the extraordinarily rich performance potential of Poland’s outstanding musicians in juxtaposition with a Polish and international programme showcasing the multiculturalism of music and in collaboration with outstanding musicians and rising stars of the world music scene.
The event is intended to foster a sense of unity, solidarity in an increasingly polarised world, activate the local community – especially children, young people, students and seniors, and show that experiencing the music of other cultures increases tolerance and cultural empathy.

The event enjoys the honorary patronage of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, the honorary patronage of the Embassy of Argentina in Poland and Lithuania, the patronage of the Mayor of Sosnowiec, the patronage of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, the media patronage of the Polish Radio – ‘Dwójka’ and TV3 Katowice.
