Following their spectacular debut at the Sounds of Surrender Festival in 2023, Joolaee Trio returns to Wrocław!
Formed in 2021, Joolaee Trio has its roots in the long-standing collaboration between kamancheh virtuoso Misagh Joolaee and his duo partners Schaghajegh Nosrati (piano) and Sebastian Flaig (percussion). The trio made a highly acclaimed debut at the Rudolstadt Festival in 2022. Their impactful performance led to further concerts in prestigious halls and festivals such as Sendesaal Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Jazz Meets World Festival in Prague, Radeberger-Konzerte in Cologne, Heidelberger Frühling, and Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin.
The trio’s musical language is defined by rhythmic originality and lyrical storytelling, dazzling virtuosity, and whispered silence. Drawing from Persian, European classical, and contemporary music influences, the trio creates a unique language and sound shaped by musical dialogue. Their repertoire consists mostly of original compositions, complemented by their own arrangements of Turkish and Persian folk songs.

    Joolaee Trio was founded in 2021 from a long-standing collaboration between the virtuoso kamanche Misagh Joolaee, pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati and drummer Sebastian Flaig. The band made its debut to great acclaim at the Rudolstadt Festival in 2022, which resulted in invitations to prestigious stages, including Sendesaal Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Jazz Meets World in Prague, Heidelberger Frühling and Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin. The musical language of the trio combines rhythmic originality, lyricism and expressive virtuosity with subtle silence. Inspired by Persian, classical European and contemporary music, it creates a unique sonic space for the dialogue of cultures. Most of the repertoire consists of original compositions by the band members, supplemented by their own arrangements of Turkish and Persian folk songs.

    Schaghajegh Nosrati (born 1989 in Bochum) is a versatile pianist, valued for her interpretations of Bach’s works. The breakthrough came with a prize at the Bach Competition in Leipzig (2014) and cooperation with Sir András Schiff. She has given concerts in Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, among others. She releases award-winning CDs, and teaches at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin as Schiff’s assistant.

    Misagh Joolaee (born 1983 in Iran) is a versatile musician and master of kamancheh. He studied Persian and classical European music. Winner of numerous awards, including Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik for solo albums and a CD with Joolaee Trio. He has performed with Cappella Amsterdam and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Founder of the Aavaan ensemble and lecturer at the University of Hildesheim (2011–2014).

    Sebastian Flaig, a drummer from Freiburg, studied ethnic percussion, jazz and composition in Leipzig, and deepened his knowledge of oriental music in Istanbul under the guidance of master Misirli Ahmet. He combines jazz, oriental and early music, collaborating with Maya Youssef, Ensemble Resonanz, Taner Akyol Trio, among others. Winner of the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, he also composes music for theatre, films and radio broadcasts.
